Santa Claus Express Night Train

The Finnish double-decker night train, known as the Santa Claus Express, travels from Helsinki to snow-covered Lapland in the north. The train stops at Rovaniemi, the official home of Santa Claus, and then goes on to Kemijärvi, its final destination. See the beauty of Finland from the comfortable compartments of this train and wake up above the Arctic Circle the next morning.






Santa Claus Express runs on the following routes:

 

Helsinki - Kemijärvi (train number 265/273 and 266/274)

  • Via Tampere, Oulu and Rovaniemi

 

Helsinki - Kolari (train number 272/269)

  • Via Tampere and Oulu

 

Turku - Rovaniemi (train number 933/266)

  • Via Tampere and Oulu

  • Reservations on the Santa Claus Express night trains are mandatory

    We recommend you make your reservations as far in advance as possible. For this train you can start booking your seat up to 2 months in advance. 

     

    How to make reservations on the Santa Claus Express

    You can reserve your seat or sleeping accommodation on the Santa Claus Express trains in the following ways:

    • Through our reservation service

    • By calling the Finnish Railways (VR) customer care (+358 9 2319 2902)

    • At the train station. Keep in mind that trains can become full during busy times.

       

    Reservation fees:

    • Seat: €10
    • Double sleeper: €40 p.p.
    • Single sleeper: €100
    • Deluxe double sleeper with private bathroom: €49 p.p.
    • Deluxe single sleeper with private bathroom: €118 p.p.

     

    Please note that during high season the prices of reservations increase by 10% - 20%.
